Welcome
Welcome to this modest homepage about all sorts of early dance. Because I could not find the dance site I was looking for, I decided to create my own. Here you will find interviews, articles, little films, tips and pictures, all about dance. You can also visit my blog at DancerUniverse.
I'm still working on a special issue of Encore!Magazine. For the meantime, I uploaded "Hofdans", one of my own compositions, for you to dance on. ;-) Feel free to join E!M's dance forum!
I hope you'll enjoy your visit here! If you have comments or like to contribute to this site, do not hesistate to contact me. Keep on dancing!
Best wishes, Martine
Early Dance
Early dance (or historical dance) in a collective term covering a wide variety of dance types from the past as they are danced in the present.Dances from the early 20th century can be recreated precisely, being within living memory and from the age of film and video recording. However, earlier dance types must be reconstructed from evidence such as surviving notations and instruction manuals.
Historical dances may be danced as performance, for pleasure at themed balls or dance clubs, as historical reenactment, or for musicological or historical research.
